This year theme was majulah! and we have cadets who are involved in the marching contingent.

The history of Singapore dates to the 11th century. The island rose in importance during the 14th century under the rule of Srivijayan prince Parameswara and became an important port until it was destroyed by Portuguese raiders in 1613. The modern history of Singaporebegan in 1819 when Englishman Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British port on the island. Under British colonial rule, it grew in importance as a centre for both the India-China trade and the entrepôt trade in Southeast Asia, rapidly becoming a major port city.

During World War II, Singapore was conquered and occupied by the Japanese Empire from 1942 to 1945. When the war ended, Singapore reverted to British control, with increasing levels of self-government being granted, culminating in Singapore's merger with the Federation of Malaya to form Malaysia in 1963. However, social unrest and disputes between Singapore's ruling People's Action Party and Malaysia'sAlliance Party resulted in Singapore's expulsion from Malaysia. Singapore became an independent republic on 9 August 1965.

War Memorial Park

On the 19th of March, it's the annual Flag Day.
This year's flag day was special as it's a joint flag day together with Hope Singapore.

After the Flag day have ended, we went for an educational trip to the War Memorial Park. This is to help the cadets to gain badges.

Certainly hope that everyone have enjoy themselves over there and hope that it's a fun and memorable educational trip for everyone of us.

Every year, there will be this event in school to recruit new sec1s members.

We did the improvised version this year. We've printed banners with all the informations and photographs. It definitely protray our professional image. It did really attract many interested crowds and officers are there to explain the information in depth to the sec1s' parents

NCO Course 2010

During the 2010 November - December holidays, cadets went for their Basic and Advance NCO Course.
(NCO means Non-commissioned officer)

This year's NCO course was different. It's shorten from 2 months to 2 weeks. In the win-win situation, cadets will have to go through 2 phase of camp, Theory camp phase and Training camp phase.

During the Theory camp phase, cadets have gone through lectures and tests through the camps. While during the Training camp phase, cadets have gone through much more meaningful stuffs. It's a great experience for everyone. The one day hike for everyone, where we hike from Clementi Town Secondary School to various locations such as the railway track, king albert park, bukit timah hill, botanic garden and back to our camp base. The cheers which we sing through the route. It's certainly a great experience for everyone.

Also, other than hike, we also have games and campfire on the next day. I'm sure everyone have enjoyed themsleves!

Remember, Tough time don't last, but tough men do!

During Septemeber, we had our own 'Mid-Autumn Festival' outing at West coast park on 12 September 2010. We reached there in the afternoon, and started to fly kites and play uno stakos. Until evening, we settle down and had our dinner follow by lighting up of our own lanterns which we brought and also playing with candles and sparkles. We also ate mooncake together.

It's Footdrill Competition. Jurongville send 2 Nursing Team, 1 Mixed Team and 1 Ambulance Team.
Results are out, Mixed team got the 1st runner up and Nursing team (Sec2'10) got the 2nd runner up. Well, the results are set.

i want to thank all the sec ones for coming down to yio chu kang complex to watch the BGI/AGI.i would also want to applaude for all the sjab cadets for helping out for the brigade general inspection as G.O.H. the actual parade lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes.But because of the endurance and perserverance of the cadets,they managed to perservere to the end of the parade.

Greetings everyone. There will be no training for these few weeks till MYE is over. Please do work hard for the exams.

Here are some ways to create good study habits which i might find them useful.

1. learn to make mind maps , it serves as a great memory tool.

2. Group study.

3. have frequent breaks.

4. try to study in a quiet environment.

For subjects like science, geog and history ,try and look for related videos or animations online after studying the subject. It helps a lot in understanding and memorizing.

The Annual First Aid Competition venued at Westwood Secondary school had finally ended. Jurongville Corps sent 5 teams in total: 2 Ambulance Teams, 2 Nursing Cadet Teams and 1 Nursing Adult Team.

The committee members met up at sub centre with Ding Jun Sir for committee meeting. After the meeting everyone decided to went for lunch follow by singapore flyer and movies. We had lunch at Kopitiam( JP). Then took MRT to City Hall to s'pore flyer. Kokloon tried to ask for direction and transport, in the end misled us to UE square =.="

.Loh kokloon the one in white and black is trying to up skirt a chiobu(commented by sir) on the other capsule. Do not misunderstand, the one in blue yang fun is a righteous guy. He just trying to catch some air.

But due to time constraint we didn't manage to catch a movie. so in the end we just had our dinner at Suntec and homed.

Saint John Ambulance Brigade-Foot Drill Competition(24th October 2009)

The annual Foot Drill competition venued at River Valley High School had finally ended. Jurongville Corps had sent 4 teams: 1 Ambulance Team, 2 Nursing Team and 1 Mix Team.

It was suprising that we manage to win. We did not have much of trainings due to H1N1. Especially to the Sec 1 Juniors in SGT Ezzaty's team, you guys did a great job. As for the rest try harder next year and target champion for next year's First Aid Competition.

The cadets SEC 1-3s are having Basic and Advance NCO course in HQ together. Everyone Must Endure and try volunteering in everything, Course IC or Platoon IC. Must get Best Trainee Award.

This Friday's training programme started off with the campfire rehearsal followed by Muster Parade. The Sec 1s measure their size for the uniform and accessories after that,the Footdrill Competition training. Sir Ding Jun praised the sec1s for their coordination good job.Finally we have our Recreation and Hari Raya celebrations(eating MacDonald).

Saint John Ambulance brigade-Training 18 September 2009

Trainings on this friday was fine and there were no much delays. Due to Hari Raya some of the Muslim Cadets were unable to attent. After First Parade,Sec 1 and 2s went to their respective classrooms for camp fire dances.There were 3 groups, Sec 1s: Cha Cha and Line Dance, Sec 2s doing Cha Cha stomp and Indian Dance. Next, we have recreation but it was raining so we decided to play indoors ,even though there there were some delays the game still move on smoothly. Moving on, we proceed to our Footdrill competition training meanwhile OC Chuthing and Yong Thai measure the size of the SEc 1s for their uniform. The Sec 1 learnt slow march and slow march Berhenti and KABLAKAN INDOORS with the Sec 2s. Before last parade Sir Ding Jun brief us on our BNCO and ANCO which is held in HQ(beach Road).Finally we have our last parade and Sec 1s went home and debriefs for the Sec 2s.

There will be extra footdrill competition Training next TUESDAY and THURSDAY from 2 45 to 5 45p.m

The History of Singapore and Saint John Ambulance

Singapore

The Republic of Singapore began when Singapore gained its independence and became a republic following a secession from the Federation of Malaysia on 9 August 1965.

After the separation, the fledgling nation had to become self-sufficient, and faced problems including mass unemployment, housing shortages and lack of land and natural resources .

During Lee Kuan Yew's term as prime minister from 1959 to 1990, his administration curbed unemployment, raised the standard of living and implemented a large-scale public housing programme. The country's economic infrastructure was developed, racial tension was eliminated and an independent national defence system was created.

The Saint John Ambulance Brigade

St John Ambulance was first introduced in Singapore in 1935. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, the government re-assigned all St John personnel to form the nucleus of the Medical Auxiliary Service (MAS) which was part of the Passive Defense Services of Singapore and Malaya.

It was the crisis of 1938 just before the second World War, that it became increasingly apparent to our citizens how vital our work was, and at that time recruiting was brisk. The St John Council was established in 1952 and became the National St John Council when Singapore became an independent sovereign nation in 1965.

The sec 1 cadets report to school at 9am for their total defence till 12p.m for their lunch. Sec 2 cadets report to school with at 1.pm for the BFA practical test with other CCAs.We were seperated into two teams. One of the team report to SSGT Lee Yong Tai and SSGT Cheah Ann Nee for the test on bandages while the other team report to SSGT Ong Li Hui and SSGT Lim Hui Zhen for test on CPR and Vice-Versa.

The various CCAs proceed to the AVA room for their final theory revision and learnt roller bandagings. The CCAs were separated to different classrooms for their theory exam.

After the theory exam,we have our lunch .Next,we gather back in the AVA room for the practical exam.Some of us were having practical exam while others stayed in the AVA room watching"Kungfu Panda" while waiting for their turns.

However, due to time constrain, some of us weren't able to complete the practical exam.We'll be taking the exam another day.

St John Ambulance Brigade-BFA training(30th May 2009)

This is the second day of BFA training.The participants report in school concourse at 9am and took attendance before proceeding to AVA(group 1) and classrooms(group 2).

At 12.30p.m, we had our lunch.Next, the CCAs gathered at the concourse for exchange of the programme; group 1-practical. Group 2-theory.

Tomorrow will be our BFA test so GOOD LUCK GUYS!

St John Ambulance-BFA training(29th may 2009)

The sec1 and 2 cadets pack up and arrange the materials for the BFA lectures before it starts. At 2.30p.m, the CCAs-Girls Guides,NCC,NPCC,Chinese dance and drums assembled in the hall for the briefing by Ms Tan Poey Siang. Each CCA were separated into groups of two.

The sec1s are to help in taking attendance for the other CCAs while the sec 2 and 3 cadets assist in the practical(group 2).

The CCA groups proceed to their respective venues.Group 1 was in the AVA for the theory lecture conducted by SO(4)Sir Ang Ding Jun . Group 2 report to the classrooms for their Practical, the sec 2 and 3 cadets help out in the practical part.

The two groups' activities will be vice-versa.Reminder that tomorrow are to report before 9am in school attire and short pants.

St John Ambulance-Public duty at Chinese temple(17th may 2009)

The sec 1s and two cadets along with some cadets from the Jin Tai secondary corps had went for the Chinese temple located at Bedok Reservoir Road Block 702.

When we destinated our venue, we had our lunch before assisting the elderly to their seats.We help some of the elderly who are wheel chair bound and had difficulty in walking. After wards,some of us patrolled around the temple and some sec 1s help the elderly to the toilet.

Before we left, we had photo taking sessions and the temple gave us a television as a token of appreciation in a form of lucky draw. The television had being donated to the Saint John Ambulance Brigade.

Congratulations to all the price winners and participants. The JVS St John Ambulance had once again made the school proud by upholding the school values of Perseverance , Respect , Integrity, Discipline and Excellence.The participants had undergo a few weeks of tough and long trainings but none of us yield and eventually making a breakthrough in the competition.

The participants stood under the tyrant sun for uniform checks during first parade before proceeding to their respective venues.In the afternoon,the sky turns dark and footdrill was held in the school hall ,however it did not affect our performance.

Some of the Sec 1s are dressed up as casualties.Even though we are from the same corp,the sec1s did not alleviate us which pactice one of our school value - Integrity. A big thank you and we appreciate your work.

Thanks to all the volunteers from our corps by assisting us as Marshals.

First Aid Competition is coming very soon. Jurongville will be sending 3 teams for the competition with one Ambulance Team and two Nursing Team. These three teams were training very hard for the past training days. The Secondary One's cadets had learnt Wounds and Bleeding and some foot drills.

Everyone falled in by eight in the morning, they had first parade, bag inspection, Camp briefing, Bunk Cleaning and Bunk Inspection before having their First Aid Lecture in preparation for the upcoming First Aid Competiiton in a few months time. The secondary one's and two's campers were divided into five different groups. Every group settled down in the five different stations and had their first aid topics taught my their seniors who attended the camp. Due to the heavy amount of topics, lunch was delayed by a little but nevertheless, they still managed to have a First Aid Case Practical. And after all the tough brain damaging session, the campers played Captain Ball as the beginning of all the recreations. TIme flies and it was dinner time. After dinner was the game when the players had to use what they have, excluding water to dissolve the bars of soap away. Everyone started to apply soap on other's faces, body etc etc. And Sir Dingjun fulfilled his dream of using the hose to wet every single campers there. It was fun. And after this game, was the campers bathing time. The most exciting part was the Night War and the Night Walk. The Night wall was planned very successfully with stomping of basketball sound in the D&T Block, flickering of lights, banging of door, spoky tunes, scary faces and the screaming session. Then, there was a nightwalk walkthrough before Lights Out.

Day2! Campers woke up in th morning and had PT which was a challenge that every single person must climb over the wall to the other side. This is when they can cultivate teamwork and work together as one. It took faster thanthe expected time. The campers did a great job. It was breakfast next. And after breakfast was the relay race. At the first part, all the guys remove their top to form the longest line as long as they can in oder to usethe netball to throw over the net. They had to run to the next station when they had to push the pringles all the way from the top of their face to their mouth. The last station was when the the campers had to be divided into pairs and each pair had to use their cheeks to stick the fruits given to them and walk a certain distance. After the tiring relay race, was their lunch when they had their field cooking. After lunch was campfire preparation, then bathing and the actual campfire. After all the campfire, the campers had their fire drills and triage from 5am to the next morning.

Day3! had a nice breakfast, area cleaning, debrief and everyone went home.

St John Ambulance- Training Days ( July 2008 to December2008)

Everything is going on smoothly duing this two months. The secondary one's pupils attended their Basic NCO course during November and December. Every secondary one's cadet who attended the course had successfully passed their course and will be attending Advance course next year. Let us cheers and congratulate the secondary one's cadet for their endurance throughout all the tough course days and of course the extremely tough camp.

Its the first week of school and this is the first time St John day falls on a school day. Members wore their uniform to school and the sec 1s wore their st john t-shirt. In conjunction with the St John day, we held a mini bazaar in school, collecting funds for the coming walkathon. The event was a success with the help of the members.

Today's weather was good. Cloudy and no rain. The sec 1s and 2shad their first aid practical taught by Sgt Chu Thing, Sgt Ann Nee and Sgt Hui Zhen. During the first aid lecture, they were taught to tie reft knot, arm sling and elavation sling. After which they had Footdrill where they were taught marching. They ended their day training with a short recreation - captain's ball.

The sec 3s girls trained for their first aid competition under SSGT Li Hui. Special thanks to the guys who acted as casualties to aid the fa competition training.

St John Ambulance - Counting Day (30 March 2008)

After a day of hard work, its time to see results. All the 3 officers crossed their fingers, not asking for more. The participating members met at jurong east interchange and the 2 officers drove them there. We reached HQ at 810am and start counting at 830am. This year was special, we counted tin by tin because there is a competition going on. To our surprise, we complete the counting at Lunch. 132 tins. Whats next? We collected 4 full bags of coin. What is full? A bag that is so heavy that a man have to use lots of strength to carry. No girls was able to lift it up at all. And whats best? $1500 worth of cash collected.

Guess what? We have collected $6700! Congragulations people. Good Job! We were the top in Zone Level. This may not be alot, but compare to last year, it was only $2400.

Lesson Learnt: Hard Work Pays.

The seconary 1s had completed fracture for their first aid theory. During their first aid practical they were taught how to make arm sling and donut with the triangular bandage. The secondary 2s and 3s did their first aid competition training. After the tedious training, the members played captain's ball. Towards the end of the day, all members and officers gathered for a little heart warming celebration put up by the school leavers. A specially designed cake to celebrate the 3 officer's 10th anniversary in St John.

Today is the last training for the fellow secondary 4 members. Its very sad to see them leaving. We sincerely thank them for their contribuution to the brigade and school for the 4 fours of service. Best wishes to these seniors and see them after N/O levels.

The seconary 1s were introduce to fracture for their first aid theory. During their first aid practical they were taught how to clean a open abrasion wound. The secondary 2s and 3s did their first aid group training guided by the Sec 4s today. Total of 3 teams: Senior Nursing, Junior Nursing and Ambulance team. Today's case is electric shock. The 3 teams took turns to perform the case. While 1 of the team is performing, the other 2 observe and learn in the following order: Senior Nursing Team, Ambulance Team and Junior Nursing Team.

The secondary 1s had their fooddrill, the secondary 2s had their first aid training and the secondary 3s had their first committee meeting.

After their formal training, the members proceed of with an hour of ball games for recreation.

Today the secondary 1s go through basic drill and first aid. The secondary 2s bushed up on their drills and the secondary 3s members went through some leadership training conducted by SGT Chu Ting. After the tedious training, there was a Yu Sheng session where everyone "Lao". We end off the training with fabulouse treat of snacks and jellies prepared by our teacher-in-charge, Ms Gaithri and her students.

2 more Secondary 1 members, that adds up to 16 guys and 8 girls. Today the Sec 1s started their very first first aid lecture and the seniors carried on with their own activity. After lecture, they sec 1s had some recreation led by the sec 3s and training ends with a small birthday celebration for January and February babies. In tune with the coming Lunar New Year, members were issued chinese new year cards sponsored by the officer-in-charge.

After 20 days of waiting, we finally get to see the new members. This year's recruitment result prove success of CCA fair held earlier this month. We have got Secondary 1 total strength of 29 members and present strength of 21. To our surprise, Boy:Girl ratio is 15:7.

During the orientation, Members are brief the coming events, rules and regulations, expectation of them, etc.. At the end of the briefing, they were asked to fill the application form and have their photo taken.

After briefing, members played some ice breaking games for an hour and at the end of the day, we have a welcome snack session. The seniors prepared apple chocolate dip for all the members of SJAB. Yummy!

St John Ambulance - CCA Fair 2008 (05 Jan 08)

The CCA Fair which is the first and most important event the brand new year 2008 was a success. This year, we provided free health check up for the students and their parents. At the end of the event, members can choose to have a free ambulance ride around the school. The event was a success although the ambulance ride was cancelled by the CCA HEAD, MR TAN JJ. Results will be out 2 weeks time. Special thanks everyone who played a part to set up this event. Your help, be it major or minor, contribute to the success of the event.

· SS Li Hui for her help in assisting the set up, coordinating with the different UGs in getting the logistic necessary for the set up and leading all fellow members towards completion of work on time and .
· Senior committee members, SGT Ann Nee for her logistic support, SGT Chu Thing for coordinating with AVA and fellow PSL of the camp, SGT Syafikah for sacrificing her little finger while making the door gifts, SGT Wei Te for assisting Mdm Kai Ling for the classroom set up.
· Junior committee members, CPL Pei Qi for coordinating the members, CPL Alicia and Yi Lian for getting the door gifts done on time and the guys for their physical support during the event.

Those whose names are not mentioned, you guys’ support are greatly appreciated. Everyone’s effort counts. Although the whole event is still not perfect due to lousy arrangement of the PERSON IN CHARGE, this is a break through compared to the earlier years. We will strive to do a better set up next year.
